Understanding shifts in the way people work as a result of the COVID-19 disruption can be important in helping you attract top talent to your workforce, writes Alex Hattingh, Chief People Officer at Employment Hero.
To say 2020 was a challenging year is an understatement. COVID-19 wreaked havoc on many Australian businesses, which contributed to extreme uncertainty in the employment landscape.
As light at the end of the tunnel emerges, and more and more jobs begin to open up each day, employers may need to start thinking about building up their workforce in our ‘new world’.
Hiring post-COVID will look a little different to what it once did. Whilst a challenging year, 2020 taught us that teams are able to work in ways that we didn’t think were possible, with remote working being the largest change.
Creation of a new work culture
We’ve also seen a much-needed digital shift, which has led to employment, communication and productivity platforms being used by remote teams every day. We’re now seeing many businesses placing more trust in their employees and, as a result, this has created a culture of output over hours.
We can expect many workplaces to continue working from home for at least some days per week, so it’s important you shift focus to attracting the right people in our new world of work.
When it comes to hiring, it’s important to get your employer branding right and develop a world-class employee value proposition (EVP).
Importance of work-life balance
We know that people like working remotely, so it’s no surprise that job seekers will be looking for greater work-life balance and flexibility when looking for roles. They want to know that they will have the autonomy, trust and good work/life balance, but above all, feel empowered in their roles.
The shift to remote work has also meant that you can attract top talent regardless of location using a Professional Employer Organisation (PEO). A PEO works by hiring full-time employees on your behalf, saving you the cost and time of setting up a local entity in multiple countries. The advantages of using a PEO to help you expand are endless, but primarily, it can help businesses speed up their trajectory and save money.
And when you’ve chosen the perfect fit and it comes time to onboard, give your new hires the best possible experience with HR software and paperless onboarding. You’ll save time while giving them a seamless onboarding experience from day one.
