Fifty QSuper team members stepped out the last of their month-long 110-kilometre walking challenge at the end of May – part of the 8th Darkness to Daylight Challenge raising awareness and support for domestic and family violence (DFV) prevention.
The event, part of Australia’s CEO Challenge, is one of QSuper’s commitments to its membership community to have meaningful conversations about DFV.
This commitment doesn’t stop when we unlace our shoes at the end of the 110-kilometre challenge – a challenge where each kilometre walked represented a life lost to DFV, on average, in Australia each year.
QSuper supports issues that our membership community is passionate about. Putting an end to domestic and family violence by raising awareness to foster a culture of prevention is one way to do so,” QSuper Team Captain Michelle Green said.
DFV commitment at QSuper
QSuper 2021 Team Captain Michelle Green explained the Darkness to Daylight Challenge was only one of a range of initiatives QSuper was involved with that supported DFV prevention.
“QSuper is taking the lead in making real change. We understand that anyone can fall victim to DFV, but it’s predominantly an area which impacts women,” she said.
“With females representing two-thirds of our members, QSuper is committed to taking an active role in tackling DFV, both within the workplace and broader community.”
As well as our commitment to the Darkness to Daylight Challenge, QSuper continues to support other DFV services via community partnerships with DVConnect and RizeUp Australia. This includes funding 4,000 crisis calls each year and encouraging employees to volunteer towards supporting a range of practical and fundraising initiatives.
We want to remove stigma, open the door to awareness, and give others the tools to make a real difference to those who need it. Together, through conversation, awareness, fundraising, and action, we can be part of the voice saying, ‘enough is enough’,” Ms Green said.
