The incredible dedication, hard work and professionalism of nurses and midwives has never been more evident over the past 12 months, which is why QSuper is delighted to announce the winners of our competition to honour these unsung heroes as part of 2021 International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife celebrations.
Nurses and midwives have been on the front line in the struggle against COVID-19, coming to the fore to support so many people who have been at their most vulnerable.
To mark 2021 International Nurses Day (12 May) and International Day of the Midwife (5 May) we conducted a competition, inviting Queensland nurses and midwives, many of whom are QSuper members, to enter for the chance to win two $500 gift cards − one each for a nurse and a midwife.
We asked nurses and midwives to tell us in 25 words or less:
What’s your proudest moment as a nurse or a midwife?
Their answers were wide and varied and it was very clear nurses and midwives confront challenges on a daily basis.
But what was also reflected was that most saw nursing not as a job but a ‘calling, a way of life’. They are people dedicated to helping others and possess a determination to work with and give back to their respective communities.
And, the winners are:
Nurse winner:

Tanya McGuigan

Midwife winner:

Amanda Gill

Mackay Base Hospital
Winning entry:
When I aided a family to birth a live child, having been their midwife when they lost their previous child 14 months before.
