A 2am hospital visit revealed Queensland Children’s Hospital nurse Kylie Fitzpatrick’s true ‘superhero’ identity.
Empathising, that families of sick kids do it tough, Nurse Kylie went above and beyond to care for not just six-year-old Sophia, who is living with Sturge-Weber Syndrome, but also for her mum, Mandy.
As part of Sophia’s condition, she has a birthmark that stretches over her brain, often experiences seizures, and has Glaucoma.
Kylie is the fourth healthcare practitioner announced as part of Juiced TV’s Super Hero Awards Program, supported by QSuper.
In an emotionally charged Juiced TV segment, Mandy explains to Kylie why her care made all the difference during the early morning hospital visit consumed by stress and emotion.
“I just felt comfortable with you on my team, because it’s not just about supporting the kids, which is the main bit, it’s about supporting us. And I think for me, that’s where you shone above and beyond,” Mandy says.
Kylie recalls how she simply cared for Mandy and her daughter, appreciating the hardship families of those with sick kids overcome every day.
“You are the superhero, like I told you that night. You are incredible. Every minute of every day, you are. You are doing it tough, and I’m just going to do whatever I can to make it that bit easier for you. You deserve that, you really do, and so does Sophia,” Kylie explains.
The Super Hero Awards Program is made possible by QSuper, helping Juiced TV increase its positive impact on the kids and their families at Queensland Children’s Hospital, and also throughout the state’s regional hospitals with a ‘Juiced Box’ mobile application.
“At QSuper we are focused on improving our members’ wellbeing while mirroring the value our members place on serving the community. In our own respective ways, we are focused on creating long-term benefits for the communities in which we live and serve,” QSuper CEO Michael Pennisi said.
