QSuper has scored another honour for our members by being named 2021 SuperRatings and Lonsec Fund of the Year at the annual awards recognising excellence in the superannuation industry.
Each year, SuperRatings and Lonsec acknowledge the achievements of individual Australian super funds across a range of categories, with the coveted Fund of the Year award presented to the fund that offers the best value proposition to its members.
This is the third time in six years that QSuper has received this award. We also won Pension of the Year for the third year running and the Smooth Ride award for the second year in a row at the virtual event on Thursday, 29 October at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney where SuperRatings executive director Kirby Rappell paid tribute to QSuper.
“In a highly competitive field, we decided that QSuper was the fund that performed most strongly across the key criteria of investment performance, fees, member services, financial advice and insurance, and fund governance,” Mr Rappell said. “Congratulations to the team at QSuper on a fantastic effort. It was a strong field this year and we note the high calibre of all award winners, with the quality of their offerings shining through the pandemic.”
The awards cap off a strong year for QSuper and our members. We were ranked number one for investment performance in the March quarter, at the height of the COVID-19-charged market volatility, and an industry leader over the decade.1
Recognition of our commitment
QSuper Chief of Member Experience, Jason Murray, said the awards were an extraordinary honour and recognition of our unrelenting commitment to deliver for members, through the good times and the tough ones.
“This year’s recognition is even more humbling. It’s an acknowledgement that, despite the unexpected challenges of 2020, our strong performance, low fees and unique investment strategy have delivered for our members in a year like no other,” Mr Murray said.
“Being a profit-for-members fund, our members are at the heart of everything we do. Many of our members are frontline workers. The do incredibly important jobs, but this year they were called upon to do the absolute extraordinary for all of us. Our gratitude to them drives us every day and we are delighted to be recognised for the success QSuper has achieved on their behalf.”
Pension of the Year for third year in a row
The Pension of the Year award recognises our Retirement Income account as the best value for money in Australia for the third year running.
“We’re proud of the pension product we’ve developed, its low fees, great value and the increased flexibility it provides, and we’re proud to have our unique investment strategy acknowledged during these difficult times,” Mr Murray said.
It has been a year of unexpected challenges and the difficulties many Australians are currently facing is a strong reminder of our industry’s core purpose. We operate solely to provide our members with financial security in retirement.
“The Pension award has particular importance to us because it’s at retirement that proof of our investment strategies and member focus is most evident. It’s at that point when our members rely on us more than ever before,” he said.
Smooth Ride in a year of turmoil
We are also proud to once again accept the Smooth Ride award on behalf of members after enduring such an incredible year.
Our unique investment strategy delivered on its objective of helping members achieve strong long-term returns with less volatility.
This approach has held up strongly through the COVID-19 pandemic and given our members confidence for today and the future.
QSuper was also a finalist in the MySuper of the Year, MyChoice of the Year and the Net Benefit award categories.
