We’re pleased to share the winners of this year’s QSuper World Teachers’ Day competition, and to shine a light on some of the remarkable contributions Queensland teachers make to the lives of their students and school communities.
We asked teachers how they, or someone they know, makes a difference as a teacher.
Congratulations goes to:
Metropolitan: Berenice Furlong from Centenary State High School
“It just takes one word, one action, one moment, one person to make a difference. And that person is me. I am a teacher.“
South East: Erin Docker from Park Lake State School
“Every teacher leaves an imprint on a student’s heart, every student leaves an imprint in return.“
Darling Downs and South West: Kathryn Radunz from Stanthorpe State School
“As the Arts teacher, I provide before school and lunch programs, which aim to provide a creative outlet and safe space for all students.“
Far North Queensland: Tyler Vikionkorpi from Trinity Bay State High School
“By making students feel like people who are worthy of opportunity, learning and growth through professional care, diligence and a love for their job.“
North Coast: Jacqueline Rose Molen from Sandy Strait State School
“In 2018 our school has moved on an inclusion journey from total segregation of students with disabilities to inclusive education for all. Very proud of our team!“
Central Queensland: Brian Fisher from Yeppoon State High School
“Take the 'now', transfer it to 'what if?' empowering students with skills required to equip them to master a world that does not yet exist.“
North Queensland: Stephen Bauer from Weir State School
“Teachers – Wet your pants? Problem solved. No lunch? Sorted. Vomited on the carpet? It's all good. Need an education? We do that too!“
Just some of the qualities on show in our winners are exceptional leadership, going above and beyond to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and displaying a genuine love for their profession.
Our panel had a tough job of deciding on winners as we were inundated with inspiring responses from right across Queensland. Thank you to everyone who entered our competition, and congratulations to all our winners.
Each winning entrant has won a $100 gift card for their own enjoyment and a $1,500 prize pack for their school in recognition of their contribution.
