Help for employers

Find an answer to the most common questions our employer partners ask.

You don't have to pay yourself super guarantee contributions as a sole trader.

If you choose to make payments into your super fund, you can use a clearing house like our online contribution portal, Employer Direct.

Regardless of how much your employees earn, you must pay superannuation guarantee (SG) contributions to their super. This includes:

  • Full-time employees
  • Part-time employees
  • Casual employees

You must also pay super to contractors if you pay them mainly for their labour, even if they quote an Australian business number (ABN).

The SG rate is currently 11% (from July 1, 2023). Find out more about your super responsibilities

Generally, you must pay super guarantee contributions to employees under 18 years old if they work:

  • Full-time, part-time, or casual
  • More than 30 hours per week.

If they work less than 30 hours a week, you don’t need to pay them super.

You can only make payments to QSuper products using your payroll system, a super fund online system, or a clearing house service like Employer Direct.

Find out more about how to make payments, or call us if you need help.

We have 3 Unique Superannuation Identifiers (USI). The one you should use to make super payments depends on your relationship with us and your employee's super product.

Employers wanting to make super payments to employees should use:

  • 60905115063001 - If you're making contributions to QSuper accounts and QSuper is not your default super product
  • 60905115063002 - If QSuper is your default super product or you're a Queensland Government employer
  • 60905115063003 - If you're making contributions to Australian Retirement Trust Super Savings accounts.

Our ABN (Australian business number) is the same for all USIs: 60 905 115 063

If you're unsure which USI to select, please contact our Employer Helpdesk.

The first option when you register for Employer Direct under 'Type of business' is:

My business is a registered company or trust, or employs one or more employees who require super guarantee payments.

As a sole trader, choose this option to continue with the registration process.
