What is a terminal illness?
A terminal illness is a an illness or injury that is likely to result in your death within two years.
When you make a claim, we'll ask you to provide:
- Two medical certificates confirming your illness or injury is likely to result in your death within 24 months
- At least one of the medical certificates must be from a specialist in the area of your terminal illness or injury.
How much can I access?
If you are terminally ill, you may be able to withdraw:
- Your superannuation account balance, including
- Your insurance benefit (if you have death cover through your super)
- Your prospective benefit (if you have a Defined Benefit account and are under age 55).

How to make a claim
If you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, we understand you'll have a lot to think about, so we aim to make the process of making a claim as simple as possible.

Ways you can receive your benefit
If your claim is approved, you can withdraw money from your account tax-free within 24 months (2 years) of the date of your certificate. There are a few ways you can access your money:
